Founded in 1008 by Guethenoc, Viscount of Porhoët, the town is preparing to celebrate its 1000th anniversary. Residents and local organisations will be involved in organising a programme of events throughout 2008. On the agenda: mediaeval festival on 13-14 July, historical lectures, a play created specially for the occasion, a production of Victor Hugo’s “Amy Robsart”, a poetry competition, an Olivier de Clisson exhibition, and a performance of an oratorio on 20 September, the same day that the Josselin postage stamp will be inaugurated alongside the effigy in the castle. 2008 also marks 1200 years since the discovery of the Notre Dame du Roncier statue.
